3 EASY WAYS TO CELEBRATE EARTH HOUR

Switch off harmful practices to protect our Earth every hour, every day!

Did you know? Earth Hour is happening on Sunday, 30 March 2019!

Organised by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Earth Hour initiative began in Sydney in 2007. It encourages homes and businesses to switch off their lights for an hour at a specified time. In doing so, they make a public commitment to mitigating the visible, harmful effects of climate change.

Since then, the movement has gained incredible momentum, skyrocketing to more than 50 million people across 35 countries, including Singapore!

If you’re reading this, you probably already know that Liht Organics is a fully vegan, organic and natural makeup brand in Singapore. We are humbled to be able to provide some of the most highly recommended organic makeup formulations that are also kind to our Earth. We’ve waxed lyrical about being a fully vegan and cruelty-free brand, and how the ingredients used in our makeup product formulations are so organic and natural, you could even eat them!

However, there are also other ways you can be kind to our Earth. So, apart from switching off our lights for an hour, read on to know3 easy ways you can do this every hour, every day!

1. Stop phantom energy by switching off ALL electrical appliances when not in use!

Also known as vampire power, phantom energy refers to electricity that is drawn from outlets when a device is switched off but still plugged in. Phantom energy accounts for more than 15% or more of the total electricity consumed by these devices — and this is by no means a negligible amount! We’ve told you that heating up your eyelash curler with your hairdryer is a great natural beauty hack for keeping your lashes curled all day. However, remember to flip the switch on the power socket off before heading out for your parties to save energy — and our Earth — all night long!

2. Reduce your carbon footprint by taking public transport or cycling!

If you live in a cosmopolitan city such as Singapore, it is likely that you can drive, or be driven, to work or school at any point in time. However, with cities being responsible for a staggering 70% of our planet’s energy-related carbon emissions, it’s time to steer our Earth toward a more sustainable future!Minimize your individual carbon footprint by opting for public transport and/or cycling to work or school.

3. Purchase mindfully — buy only what you need!

In 2017, the global skincare and makeup product market was valued at USD 532.43 million. It is now projected to reach 805.61 billion by 2023! From traditional, non-organic and natural skincare products that boast far-reaching claims to makeup products packed with harmful chemicals, it’s naturally tempting to buy more skincare and makeup products than we actually need. However, the beauty world contributes heavily to the adverse effect that single-use plastics have on the environment. In light of Earth Hour 2018, shocking research by WWF found that only 31% of plastic waste is successfully recycled, burdening on our landfill sites and oceans greatly.

Instead of continuously shopping for new skincare and makeup products, we recommend keeping a curation of high-performing, fully vegan, organic and natural makeup products from Liht Organics on your vanity instead!
